RESUME WRITING
Every resume needs to be accompanied by a cover letter. Here are some cover letter sample suggestions:

To address your letter, get the name of the person who the letter is going to. You can get it on the internet, or call the company and ask the receptionist the name and correct spelling.

Your opening paragraph should grab the reader immediately. It should state the position you are going for and a few sentences on why you are qualified for the job. Explain how you have helped your existing company prosper and briefly state what you can do for the perspective company.

The second paragraph (or the "hook") should give some examples of the work you have performed and the results you have achieved. Do not copy what is on your resume. Cover some of the key points that you feel define your success. If your want to highlight some information not in your resume (such as switching careers), this is the perfect place to cover this material.

Continuing on with a cover letter sample is the third paragraph, where you demonstrate your knowledge. Tell what you know about the company you wish to work for, that prompted you to apply for the job. This shows the employer that you have done your homework and understand what makes the company work.

The fourth paragraph, which is the closing paragraph, is where you quickly summarize what you have to offer and ask for an interview. Follow up with a phone call. This may get the prospective employer to read your resume and cover letter.

Have someone proofread your letter and resume. They will probably find some typos that you have missed.

It is important to keep a balanced tone to your cover letter. You want it to come off as being professional while letting your personality come through. Remember to focus on the employer's needs rather than your own. Show them what skills you will bring to the job to get it done, instead of what you expect the employer will do for you.

A cover letter is not a restatement of your resume. This is an opportunity to tell your perspective employer why they should hire you. It says what makes you unique and why this company is such a great fit for you. Writing a cover letter is not easy. It takes time. Use this cover letter sample to get started to a great career!
